The Newton Family. Where do I even begin...
The day Paul introduced me to his parents, I was TERRIFIED! I knew that all the parents of men I have dated absolutely adored me, this meeting felt different. I was actually nervous. I had no reason to be. These people were so gracious and kind, so familiar, like a missing piece in a puzzle I didn't yet know I was putting together. A welcoming feeling of comfort and peace hugged me like a hot blanket fresh out of the dryer on a cold winter night. The moment I stepped in the door, it felt oldy like walking into my own apartment, but with people around. I distinctly remember they were having a cookout that night, Paul trying to make it less awkward, for him. haha. They had some friends over as well so that eased him a little I am sure. He was by far more nervous than I was. It is a night I will remember for all time because that night I expanded my family circle.
Paul W. Newton Sr. has definitely passed his humor and dry sarcasm down to his son. They both can make me laugh without much effort. Paul Sr. works the night shift as a truck driver but is home and present on the weekends. He loves his fish, fish! I never understood people that could have a "pet" fish. I feel they require too much work for something you feed and never snuggle or pet. But, to each their own as they say. He has two fish tanks and they are beautiful, a little less inhabited than when I first started coming around, had a case of ick. I will admit I do like the Angle Fish. There is much more I will learn about this man as the years go by, he is a slow study. He is also the main instigator of this family, always ruffling someone's feathers. Mostly Aubrey and Karens.
Karen Newton should need no introduction but since you are not blessed to know her as I do let me fill you in. I watched this woman on a daily not only handle her personal shit but everyone else's. Watching the dedication she has to her family makes me straight up, exhausted, and in pure awe. This woman puts in a 16 hour day on the daily, seven days a week! She is up before the ass crack of dawn, work, dinner, taking Aubrey to after-school activities, picking up the house and the woman STILL has time to do 30 ab crunch by Beach Body, Oh did I mention she dedicates time each week to the church too?! Whew. Honestly, I adore this woman. It has been, let's use the term, different, living with another woman, and in her domain nonetheless. A learning curve for sure. but one we take in stride every day. Learning how she does dishes, laundry, cleaning, and keeping house so that it is all is done to her standards so she doesn't feel as tho she needs to follow up on me. I learn a new quark about her every day and it is something I admire. She has the patience of a saint, although she will humbly disagree. For her I am grateful. She is forever giving, I have seen her do things around the house that other people should be pitching in to do, and she does it with no complaint. It is still a battle to make her save the dinner dishes for me to do. I come home and half of them are done, with nothing left but pots and a few odds and ends. But she washes those dirty dishes and not a word to be heard! The word Amazing perfectly describes her humility and dedication, her service to her family is in my opinion, overlooked too often. I have to remember to thank her more!
These two people invited a "Grown" ass woman into their home after only knowing me for a year and never bulked after the invitation was accepted. They have made room for me in their home and in their hearts. I will forever be grateful and blessed to call them my In-Laws, No, My family.
